El Raco de Fontajau settles comfortably into Girona’s Rambla de Xavier Cugat as a Mediterranean restaurant with the casual charm of a neighborhood coffee spot. Despite being on a busy street, it maintains a relaxed rhythm — its terrace creates a low-key vantage point perfect for watching the flow of daily life without wandering into tourist-heavy hustle.

The atmosphere here blends neighborhood friendliness with an unpretentious feel, making it a fitting choice for those who want a local dining experience away from the crowds. The warm welcome from staff comes through clearly in how they handle the floor — attentive and smiling, even on late Sunday evenings. This adds a dimension of easygoing hospitality that complements the dining.

Menu-wise, El Raco de Fontajau sticks closely to Mediterranean flavors with a focus on approachable, hearty dishes. You’ll find a balanced mix of classics and local touches — patates braves and calamars a l’andalusa stand out alongside more substantial offerings like the Paella Mixta or Suquet de Rap. Tapas enthusiasts will appreciate croquetes casolanes and pinxos that pair well with a casual drink or coffee.

This spot particularly suits visitors and locals who enjoy a leisurely meal with good company, be it a relaxed lunch or a laid-back dinner. The sizeable terrace makes it a great choice during warmer months, when the street’s liveliness adds to the overall vibe without overwhelming the dining experience.

For anyone looking to enjoy solid Mediterranean food with a bit of local color — friendly service, no frills, and reasonable prices — El Raco de Fontajau offers a welcoming space that balances between restaurant and café. It’s less about formality and more about feeling in tune with the everyday pace of Girona life.

Good food, very friendly service, good value. On a busy road but good for watching people go by. Away from tourist area so not crowded or overpriced. Just what we were looking for!

Local ben ubicat, amb terrassa gran Tapes de qualitat. Bon servei. Personal amable. També tenen gelateria . Varem sopar tapes i molt bé.
